Hi. I’m Joe, a T-shaped marketing consultant, specializing in revenue & growth. For 17+ years, I’ve been an operator in technology startups. I scale B2B climate, health, and education companies.
Since 2007, I’ve been a consultant, full-time operator, executive, and team leader, specializing in selling software & hardware to businesses. I was an early marketer at Atlassian (IPO) and PagerDuty (IPO), plus three unicorns: Intercom, Omada Health, and Miro. I’ve seen every stage of the startup lifecycle: Seed - IPO; employee # 15 to the 2000th; growing from $3M to $550M ARR. I now advise companies as a fractional marketing executive and consultant. I’m thrilled to sustainably grow your company with memorable marketing.
Bill Malloy, Senior Vice President @ KI
“I had the pleasure of working with Joe to develop a marketing strategy, and his partnership with me was top-notch. Joe took the time to understand our business goals and audience, providing actionable insights that made our marketing approach much more data-centric. Communication was seamless throughout the process. He was always available to answer questions and offer guidance, making the entire experience feel collaborative and supportive. If you’re looking for a marketing consultant who is knowledgeable, innovative, and genuinely invested in your success, Joe is a great fit!”
I support every stage of marketing growth
Early Stage (Seed - A)
In the 0 to 1 phase, it’s easy to get sidetracked with a thousand detours. Conferences! Search ads! A website! Freemium! Do you hire a product marketer first? What about Brand/PR? The list of diversions is endless; marketing is about focus, and having the discipline to know what to do when.
I partner with CEOs, founders, and early advisors to deliver:
3, 6, 12-month Marketing plan
Budget including discretionary, tooling, and headcount investment
KPIs and Goals
Messaging and competitive positioning framework
MarTech stack recommendation across CRM, marketing automation, website CMS, ABM
Resourcing model including FTEs and consultants
Growth Stage (B-C)
You validated product-market fit, saw some initial market traction, and now need to hit the after-burners. Congrats! It’s time to build a repeatable marketing machine. Whether you have a robust Sales-led motion or a product-led growth strategy, creating a demand engine is about the optimal funnel unique to you.
I partner with Heads of Marketing or first marketing hires on:
Auditing current marketing effectiveness
Implementing more sophisticated attribution
Launching your first paid campaign or lifecycle drip campaign
Sales & Marketing team accountability & KPIs
Growing the team, starting with a tailored roadmap, job descriptions, and interview support
Tapping my network of consultants and FTE experts to staff up fast
Maturity Stage (D - IPO+)
Having been on specialized teams of 150+ marketers, I know what complexity looks like in $100M+ ARR rarefied air. Key priorities such as establishing efficiency with existing channels, diversifying the channel mix, and deepening understanding of marketing impact are familiar terrain.
I partner with Heads of Demand Generation, Revenue, and Growth Marketing on:
Leveraging ABM, paid search, programmatic, email, display, and paid social to accelerate growth
Creating a CRO, content, and SEO flywheel for long-term organic growth
Developing and testing different growth strategies across channels or functions
Leadership coaching for marketing leaders
Filling a gap while recruiting or providing interim coverage during an absence or parental leave
Why you shouldn’t work with me
Too often Marketers focus on the sale without honestly communicating fit. I know how hard it is to find the right expert, so I want this to be a strong yes for us both. No hard feelings if we’re not a match.
-
While potentially effective for a moment, some growth hacks are essentially exploiting loopholes. My approach: identifying sustainable ways to leverage channels or technologies that drive long-term revenue. Marketing done right requires patience.
-
While I’ve managed my fair share of digital & offline marketing campaigns, I’m not a dedicated channel operator. I often spin up initial campaigns as part of my engagements, and when effectiveness has been demonstrated, leverage my trusted network to scale further. If you have any questions, please reach out to discuss.

After 5 years of working in mission-driven companies, I’ve learned that I deliver the best results when I’m passionate about the product or service. Authenticity sells better. Climate, health, and education are particular passions. Do something else mission-focused? Reach out and let’s chat!
Lucky to have built some incredible teams
Marketing leader @ Miro, Omada Health, Intercom, PagerDuty, Atlassian
2009-2023
I’ve worn many hats in these companies, funded by the best in venture capital: a16z, Accel, Bessemer, and ICONIQ. I’ve been a head of marketing, people manager, and leader for every core function: Product Marketing, Demand Generation, and PR/Brand. I love working with Sales teams as much as design teams. I’ve co-developed sophisticated CAC/LTV models with Finance teams and launched integrated global, multi-million dollar campaigns with Product Marketing. I’ve led large-scale in-person events such as industry conferences and owned VIP experiences. I’ve found profitable scale with every major digital ad channel: Meta, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Google, and Bing. I’ve experimented with many niche players including content syndication, direct publisher buys, and email marketing.
Consultant @ H&K Strategies
2007-2009
I partnered closely with technology operators to design, launch, and measure analyst and public relations strategies. I learned the power of clear storytelling in marketing, especially for technical products & solutions where it’s easy to get lost in feature talk. I developed strong relationships with Gartner, Forrester, IDC, and smaller firms, to understand the market landscape, prepare clients for critical market benchmark reports, and outpace the competition. I worked with early EV pioneer Better Place, enterprise stalwart HP, Yahoo!, and many others. My love for B2B was born.
Ongoing Education (Various)
2007–2023
If you’re not growing, you’re decaying. My formal education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Leadership Studies from Claremont McKenna College. I’ve continued to stay sharp by completing continuing studies coursework at Stanford University and UC Berkeley, focused on customer acquisition and social media marketing. I completed the Reforge Growth Series Program, Pavillion (formerly Revenue Collective), and the Climatebase Fellowship.
